Anyone who's been around the Whidbey Island sports scene in recent years knows there's one man to call when you're looking for snappy pics.
A Navy vet who first started shooting back in his high school days during the '70s (moving to digital in the 2000s), John Fisken brings a light touch to the business, capturing award-worthy photos while often playfully interacting with his subjects.
A master at delivering both action shots and intimate, behind-the-scenes photos that capture athletes when they're showing their true faces, he delivers emotionally-packed slices of life in every snap.
While he has shot a ton of high school sports in recent years, bouncing between Oak Harbor, Coupeville and South Whidbey, as well as following their various teams off-Island, prep sports are not his only calling. John has leveled his lenses at NFL and MLB players in action, as well as college football players in recent years.
While sports has been his calling card, he shoots anything that moves, delivering well-crafted photos of everything from cars exploding through local pizza restaurants to late-night jet processions through downtown streets.
His work has been rewarded with three Washington Newspaper Publishers Association awards for spot news and sports photography.
He's also begun to shoot portraits, where he's shown a true knack for bringing out something special, and often previously unseen, in his subjects.
